We had a great time at our second Reframeables Live event last night — and because we want all of the community to feel included, this bonus newsletter is our gift to you: a list of reframing tools used by some of our dear reframeable friends. Skim, scan, apply to your life as you see fit!
Reframe. Get curious!
Also, if these events or our regular podcast conversations support you in your own reframing practice, please consider buying our cookbook over on Ko-fi or joining as a regular supporter over on Patreon, where you get access to bonus episodes! Now for the list…
Natalie - Cold plunge baths! 60 seconds is where I’m at right now but I want to build up to three minutes. It’s supposed to be a healthy practice for my vascular issues — and the mental fortitude it takes to just get in the icy tub helps me to reframe what’s hard…in my day, relationships, life in general.
Mallory - City of Ghosts is an animated show that I have watched with my kids three times over! It offers gentle reframing of uncomfortable situations that we work through together.
Jackie - The Mindvalley app is a self-help app that asks big questions of life and of the self with me.
Selina - a special combo of Pilates and HIIT and Yoga all rolled into one. This class I go to is like a release. It’s hot, I sweat and then let it all go. The end of the class culminates in a grounding moment where I truly feel cleared.
Heather - Taylor Swift’s Folklore and walking are the reframing duo I need. Music and nature!
Mary - Denison Avenue is a work of visual art and fiction about gentrification, aging in place, grief, and vulnerable Chinese Canadian elders. Though not normally my thing, because I was writing a review I had to have an open mind — and that was a reframing moment for me. In reading the Toisan language components that were written phonetically, I imagined being in the character’s place, both in her mind and her circuits around Kensington and all the surrounding streets. Truly place-based reframing on the page.
Jessica - bell hooks’ wonderful book All About Love.
Also! Special Topics in Being a Human (written by S. Bear Bergman images by Saul Freedman Lawson). This is a self-help book written in a the style of a comic book style. It’s profound, intelligent, funny, open hearted…an invitation to see other people with compassion.
Jared - My reframing tool is a soundtrack by the band Water Liars. Their band name comes from a Barry Hannah short story and when their soundtrack is on my wife knows I’m working through something.
Renee - For me action is clarity. Drawing or working out are examples in my life of acts that help to bring clarity but thinking about things is also an act for me…and it all starts with vulnerability.
Avery - The ongoing practice of reflection is how I reframe. I have reframed my whole career as a teacher in this way!
Our next live even will be in August. Stay tuned for details!
