Welcome to our new Sister On! newsletter. Each week we will do a little recap of what we talked about, as well as send you one of Nat’s infamous recipes. Sound exciting?
So for starters, did you get to listen to episode 17? This was our second holiday episode where we tried to talk a little less — keeping things short(er) and sweet! — because we know you are busy! This one was all about reframing the notion of holiday and what we want it to be this year. For me, I’m looking for something less frantic. Nat suggested I call that frantic feeling excitement — as a reframe. I am going to try!
We also got into the idea of turning a concept on its head — like the positive acne trend — and how we might do that with holiday. Nat says she can’t look at the notion of holiday straight on these days when it looks so different for different people. Like many of her students, for example, for whom the holiday isn’t frantic or exciting, but lonely and sad.
We get into what I think Nat should get up to for the holidays: sitting and staring. I’m wearing her down one podcast at a time. She says she might try, but she won’t commit. But she is determined to try some newness… like the the new leaves on her fiddle-leaf fig tree. Something’s starting to shift for her.
Regardless, I won’t be micromanaging her or she me!
Reframe Muffins
Also, this. Our first recipe — or I should say Nat’s recipe! When it comes to food, she’s the creator. I’m the executor of her vision, which means when she tries to send me directions with “a bit ofs” and “pinches of” I have to demand more! More specific, Natalie. I come to baking to do it right! Other things, I can screw up. But not this.
Introducing Reframe Muffins (picture is the chocolate version). Eat them whenever you need to reframe a problem, which for me is daily. Oh, and she will make you get different kinds of flour. Worth it!
1 cup of almond flour
½ cup of arrowroot flour
1 tsp of baking powder
1 tsp of baking soda
½ tsp of salt
1 tsp of cinnamon
½ tsp of allspice
½ tsp of ground ginger
2 tbsp honey
1 tsp vanilla
3 eggs
¼ cup of coconut sugar
¼ cup light oil (coconut or canola)
A sprinkling of chocolate chips for the muffin tops
Bake for 15ish minutes till muffins spring back to the touch. Let rest for 5 minutes before eating!
Please tell us how they turn out. We love feedback.
