This week we talked to designer and songwriter Sharon Glassman (the founder of Smile Songs, a line of musical greeting cards and gifts) about reframing the concept of introversion. The wide-ranging and surprising conversation spanned what it means to be an introvert, how Sharon hacked her first journalism career to make it work at her own speed, then her journey away from New York City to becoming a “yes” person in Boulder, Colorado. I’m kind of ready to move there too!
Ultimately, she won over us two sisters who aren’t necessarily happy greeting card people (okay, we’re not!). But we’re open to changing and evolving.
Steel-cut Blueberry Baked Oats
3/4 cup steel-cut oats
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1 tsp baking powder
1.5 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
A good handful of fresh or frozen blueberries
1 can of lite coconut milk + 1/3 cup of almond milk
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 egg
Enough butter to grease your baking dish
2 tsp vanilla
Mix it all together in the baking dish you’re making it in… this is all about limiting cleanup and maximizing breakfast chill! Let the mixture sit for an hour (or overnight) before baking. You CAN just throw it in the oven immediately after mixing but letting it sit for a time allows the oats to soften just a bit.
Bake at 375 for 30 min and then turn down to 350 for another 15 min. The top should be a golden brown and firm-ish to the touch. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving with a splash of milk!
