Reframing Self-Care Failures + From Public to Private: Women in Transition with Julia Swaigen
+ 5 Spice Spelt and Flaxseed Muffins
This week, we're looking back on our October challenges from episode 53 (no complaining, no saying sorry) and reframing our commitments to language and what we really mean when we set self-care goals. Yes, this is coming out of some failed attempts! Listen in as we take a deep dive into our 30-day challenges (that went off the rails!) and how we're trying to get back on track.
In the second half of the episode we examine the language we use with our children in a discussion with child and family therapist Julia Swaigen. This is the second installment in our new series Women in Transition. Julia teaches us about her practice's methodology of attuning to kids and how we might be missing opportunities for connection.

5 Spice Spelt and Flaxseed Muffins
Becca’s away at a conference this week so I’m here…in Toronto…baking. Healthy home baked treats are almost as good as an adventure in London, England right? Give them a try and let me know what you think.
Ingredients (to make 10 muffins):
1 cup of spelt flour
1/3 cup of ground flax seed
2 eggs
1/3 cup of light oil (I used grapeseed)
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
A pinch of salt
1 tsp Chinese 5 Spice
2 tbsp milk (I used almond milk)
1/3 cup of dark chocolate chips
How to:
Preheat the oven to 350 and then mix everything together in one bowl. Bake for 11 minutes and then let cool on a baking rack for 5 min. They’ll seem underdone when you remove from the oven but trust the process - they’ll set as they sit!
Enjoy!
We appreciate Chef Sophia Roe’s outfit check selfie reframed as mental health and self-care messaging. Let’s celebrate getting up and out each and every day - because some days are harder than others!
