We're kicking off a new year of Reframeables with guests Juno Rinaldi and Jenny Young, who have launched new web series, My Special Guest. You might know them from other roles: Juno played Frankie for five years on the Emmy-nominated Netflix series Workin' Moms, and Jenny had a long time role on CBC's radio drama Afghanada and more recently on Amazon Prime’s The Lake. Now they want you to experience them together in something new that they have written and we love women taking risks! So we’re here for them.
Together we talk about making big transitions in our 40s, leaving behind jobs that were working, and experimenting with opportunities that sit way outside the box. We discuss the perils of being a Canadian actor, the joy of working with our best friends, the futility of comparison, and what it means to connect with friends beyond kids or work — essentially friendship for friendship’s sake!
Nat and Bec went to the Art Gallery of Ontario this week with
to see the Leonard Cohen exhibit. There was so much there. Copious amounts of his art in all forms—from poems scratched into random notebooks to doodles drawn on napkins that he had saved. Cohen’s life displayed as an archive of living.Creating and sharing our lives with each other in the online space seems to demand of us all to brand…and then rebrand when life obligates. The tendency of Reframeables is to lean into vulnerability and so it’s no surprise that we were both struck by Cohen’s personal brand: The Order of the Unified Heart (1984). This image was developed by Cohen and acts as his artistic signature. It points to his Jewish heritage in its allusion to the star of David but, as the curators of the show point out, “features softened edges at the top and bottom, resulting in two interwoven hearts that symbolize love, harmony, and Cohen’s abiding faith in humanity.”
We’d like to think that our logo would have pleased Cohen: a box in pieces that is never fully closed and always makes space for change. For curiosity. As Cohen said, “There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”
Let’s get out there and sparkle! Reframe. Get curious.
